This year's Golden Globe red carpet was full of pretty moments, but as a whole a bit uneventful; the ladies played it pretty safe last night.
Mermaid gowns were the most memorable looks that walked the red carpet.
Lea Michele was sensational in this silver lamé Marchesa gown with its intricate appliques over that daring illusionist nude bodice.
Rachel Evan Wood looked phenomenal in this emerald ombre beaded and feathered Gucci halter.
Sophia Vergara showed off her perfect hour glass figure in this structured navy Vera Wang fish tail.
The wonderful ladies of The Help showcased warm sisterly solidarity: Octavia Spencer wore a ruched lavender Tadashi Shoji dress, Viola Davis chose a plum one shoulder grecian draped Emilio Pucci gown with a braided belt and a high slit and interestingly, Emma Stone also rocked a draped plum gown, except hers was by Lanvin with an ombré twist.
The Two ladies who wonderfully exemplified signature style last night were Nicole Kidman and Tilda Swinton.
Kidman chose this classic yet uber sexy pearl colored embroidered Versace column.
Swinton wore a killer powder blue Haider Ackermann menswear inspired jacket and juxtaposed it a mermaid skirt. I love her playful blonde boyish coif!
For me, the real let downs were Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron in their lack luster nude gowns.
The asymmetrical rose red accent along the shoulder line of Jolie's Versace dress looks unresolved to me design-wise and I really don't like the way that faded tea rose pink photographs.
Theron's face is incredible and her ankle strap sandals are super sexy, but her Dior gown doesn't work. The big decorative bow running alongside her dramatic slit kills the airiness and movement of the skirt; I also feel that nude tone doesn't do her beautiful tanned skin justice.
Here's hoping for an alligator dress or something crazy next year to give us something fun to talk about.
